It’s only 4 days into this new year however I am thoughtful. Normally the time for reflection is at the end of the year, not the beginning. I was in the dumps at the end of the year so I just decided to delay the introspection. I am so very grateful though. I look back on many things, most specifically my health and mobility. At one time in my life, I used a walker every where I went. Every move was carefully orchestrated and thought out. Do I have everything I need to start my day? If something falls, will I really need it?

Today – I mostly have stopped thinking about standing up. Picking something up off the ground isn’t such an effort. I am so very grateful for that. It has definitely been a journey. The brain tumor was certainly nothing I planned for. Recovery from the disease did not have great odds. I have beaten those odds though.

At one time in my life, my biggest dreams were not falling – never was sure if I would be able to get up. Today –

  • I want to kayak with the whales
  • I want to hike in the woods
  • I want to walk on the green grass with my shoes off
  • Walk in the sand on the beach – maybe even wade into the ocean
  • See more Pittsburgh Penguin hockey games

Yes, I am very grateful on this January 4. Bring it on, 2024!!
